Today I read Isaiah 58. The people of Israel were fasting and seeking God with a self-centered attitude and God had to correct them and say this is not the type of fasting I desire. He wants us to fast with a focus to help others. Freeing the oppressed, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, taking care of our family and spending ourselves on behalf of others in need. I have so much and still seek to increase my own wealth and serve my own desires. It’s amazing how the life of the nation of Israel so often reflects what is going on with me in my personal walk. God is showing me I need to get over myself and look out to see that there are many people in my personal mission field that I have ignored. If we are called to the Great Commission we need to treat every day like we are on the mission field and realize we are there for a purpose – God’s purpose to share the living water of the Holy Spirit with a thirsty parched soul that is right before us if we can stop looking at ourself and our needs/desires and see who God has placed in our life at the moment in order to bless them with His Word, His living water. Will I walk with my eyes open today?

Our High School Bible Study group is committing to spend a deliberate and specific set apart personal quiet time. This morning I spent my time in the Word looking at Isaiah 54. in chapter 54 God changes from the condemnation of Israel to some wonderful promises. HE has not forsaken them. He establishes their righteousness. He is on our side (weapons formed against us won’t prosper, those that accuse us are condemned). It is God himself who vindicates us. Because of the work that Jesus did on the cross God can completely forgive us of our sins – He can pronounce us righteous through the blod that Jesus shed and covers us with the sacrifice provided for us is accepted by God. (personal) He loves me enough that He planned from the beginning of time to give his life up for me and show me how much He loves and care for me. He is a God of personal relaionships – not just a relationship with mankind but even me specifically.
